Your First Visit
At The Foot Center, Inc., we are committed to helping you keep your feet and ankles healthy. We understand that foot pain, swelling, and injuries can affect your comfort and daily activities. Whether you are visiting us for the first time or need care for an ongoing foot or ankle problem, our team is committed to making your visit comfortable and helping you understand your treatment options.
With over 40 years of experience caring for patients across Virginia, we provide personalized foot and ankle care for a wide range of needs. Our experienced podiatrists treat common foot conditions, sports injuries, diabetic foot concerns, and problems that may require surgery. We listen to your concerns, evaluate your condition, and recommend treatment options based on your health, lifestyle, and daily activities.
What Happens at Your First Visit
Your first visit begins with a discussion about your foot or ankle concerns. We want to understand what you are experiencing, when your symptoms started, and how they affect your daily life.
Your podiatrist may ask about:
- Your current symptoms, including pain, swelling, numbness, or tingling.
- Any previous foot or ankle injuries or treatments.
- Your medical history and current medications.
- Your daily activities, exercise habits, and footwear.
- Any health conditions, such as diabetes, that may affect your feet.
After discussing your concerns, your podiatrist will examine your feet and ankles. Depending on your symptoms, additional tests, such as X-rays or an ultrasound, may be recommended to help evaluate your condition.
Once the evaluation is complete, we will explain our findings in clear, easy-to-understand language. We will also discuss suitable treatment options and answer your questions so you can make informed decisions about your care.
How to Prepare for Your Visit
A little preparation can help your first appointment go smoothly. Please bring the following items when available:
A valid photo ID.
Your current health insurance card.
A list of medications you take.
Relevant medical records and previous X-rays.
Referral paperwork, if required by your insurance plan.
Comfortable shoes that you wear regularly.
We recommend arriving about 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete any necessary paperwork. If you have questions about your appointment, insurance, or required documents, contact our team before your visit.
Care Based on Your Needs
At The Foot Center, we understand that every patient has different needs. Our goal is to recommend care based on your condition, medical history, and personal goals.
Depending on your evaluation, treatment may include conservative care, custom orthotics, diabetic foot care, wound care, sports injury treatment, or other appropriate services. We also offer Cold Laser Therapy as a non-invasive treatment option for certain conditions involving pain and inflammation. If surgery is needed, our experienced podiatrists can discuss the available options with you.
With five convenient locations across the Greater Richmond area and Kilmarnock, we make it easier to access foot and ankle care close to home.
Insurance and Payment Questions
We accept many major insurance plans and can help you understand your coverage before treatment. Your insurance benefits and out-of-pocket costs may vary depending on your plan and the services you receive. Our team can help verify your benefits and explain any expected costs.
Please reach out to our team if you have any questions about your insurance coverage before your appointment.
